Such variety! – Today’s top 5 tracks

You Make Me Feel Good – Satin Jackets

How do you define Satin Jackets? Indie Dance? Let’s go with Indie Dance. The great thing about this song is how approachable it is whilst maintaining the house feel of minimal that seems to seep into your subconscious. The man behind Satin Jackets is German music producer Tim Bernhardt who teams up with well respected vocalists to produce frankly great tunes. There is a safe-for-radio version of this song which is much more vocal heavy but the original is preferred by music lovers.

Hard Times – Paramore

So Paramore are back and are trying out a new poppy style. We’re not sure it really works though, they quite clearly want to leave their emo past behind them and move into the future, which is admirable, but Hayley William’s voice just sounds like it was only ever intended to be for an emo band. The plucky guitar and upbeat feel to this song are enjoyable but is it good enough to elevate them back up to the status they achieved as an alternative band? This song feels destined to appear as the soundtrack to TV adverts more than anything.

Green & Gold – Lianne La Havas

Lianne La Havas is a breath of fresh air. You can feel her soulful vocals are a product of passion, she reportedly spent 2 years developing her writing skills after signing to her label before even releasing any songs. A multi-instrumentalist, she is a huge fan of prince and he a big fan of hers, phoning her up one afternoon and offering to come to her house to perform in her living room, an offer she accepted.

Your Hand In Mine – Explosions In The Sky

Explosions in the Sky are known for their minimalistic symphony rock. Pretty much all of their songs are instrumental and are best listened to when in a contemplative mood. Your Hand in Mine is one of their biggest songs but if you enjoy this song it’s definitely worth delving into their back-catalogue for more stunning ballads.

Someboday that I used to know – Gotye

Whatever happened to Gotye? He went from relative obscurity to number 1 in the global charts in 2011 with Somebody That I Used To Know and he appears to have now retreated back to relative obscurity. Either way, there were few people who didn’t love this song. Listen to the vocal harmonies and the depth of lyrics in this track and it’s hard to not think of it as one of the songs that will define the teenies.
