“Have you had every item on kebab shop menus?” – Today’s top 5 tracks

Party Animal Remix – Mikill Pane ft. Empress

If you’re wondering how to say his first name, it’s pronounced “Michael”, I know, confusing right? Mikill Pane is a Hackney-based hip hop artist who has collaborated with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Rizzle Kicks. Listen to this song though, the lyrics are outstanding and true of anyone that’s ever been a party animal. ”Do you dance in mad hot venues? Have you had every item on kebab shop menus? Have you heard ‘stop it’ and ‘go home’? Have you thrown up on somebody you don’t know?” This track is from 2010 but Pane has since released his debut album and a whole host of other tracks. All The Places – Made In Heights

Made in Heights consists of Alexei Saba (AKA producer Sabzi) and singer Kelsey Bulkin who has a stunning voice perfect for this brand of synth-pop. The duo have released two albums with this track being taken from their 2013 self-titled album. Made In Heights are a bit of a hidden gem, they’ve been releasing beautiful sounding tunes for the past 5 years and are still relatively unknown. Definitely worth checking out more of these guys!

Hold On – The XX

The XX released their new album this year, I See You, following on from their unexpected rise to fame with their debut 2 albums. It’s hard not to be underwhelmed by their new album, however. It doesn’t feel as though they’ve evolved very much over the past 7 years, but of course it’s the XX and their brand of down-beat minimal indie will always be good listening. The critically acclaimed new album shot to number 1 in the UK and has been well received by XX fans. It has somewhat of a more uplifting feel to it than previous albums and some new sounds coming into it, go and give it a listen and see what you think.

Sexual Healing – Hot 8 Brass Band

I defy you to listen to this song and not feel fantastic. The New Orleans brass band recreate popular pop songs to such fun and funky effect, becoming internationally renowned and travelling all over the world to perform to fans. This is their most popular song with nearly 4 million listens on Spotify, but the band have just released a brand new album, On the Spot, which will likely feature in another list soon. Don’t take them too seriously, just enjoy it!

Fake Love – FUCK ART, LET’S DANCE!

They sound a bit like Foals don’t they? The German quartet describe their music as “compact synth pop with sharp guitars, smooth keyboard reeds and throbbing drums”. It’s very new-indie, it’s certainly very listenable and you can imagine the band gaining quite a lot of momentum from a cult following of fans, but is it interesting enough to fully break through? Their debut album, Atlas, is available on Spotify so go and have a look for yourself.
