Featuring new Sylvan Esso – Today’s top 5 tracks

Radio – Sylvan Esso

Sylvan Esso are back with their brand new album, What Now and it’s fantastic. The American duo have been releasing great music since 2014 with singer, Amelia Meath, appearing to just get better and better over time. Their style can be described as electro-indie but it’s difficult to call it that for sure considering some of the sounds on their other big hits such as Hey Mami and Coffee which had a dubby undercurrent and downbeat tempos which alienate it from traditional electro-indie. Either way, Sylvan Esso are a talented pair who are only going to receive more attention as their new album beds in.

Where Do My Bluebird Fly – The Tallest Man On Earth

Swedish guitarist Kristian Matsson aka The Tallest Man On Earth, is one of the most talented musicians of recent times and one of the most underrated. Since 2010 Matsson has released 4 albums, this one coming from his 2010 album, Shallow Grave and displaying his creative abilities and talent with an acoustic guitar. Any guesses who his biggest influence is? His singing style is clearly based on Bob Dylan after he was exposed to Dylan’s music aged 15 and become slowly exposed to early American folk. If you’ve not heard any Tallest Man On Earth before, I urge you to go and listen to more, especially the album The Wild Hunt.

Wake Up – Circa Waves

Circa Waves have just released a brand new album after the success of their debut and their announcement to the world two years ago. This album feels a lot more rocky than their debut which was quite indie-pop, they appear to have taken on a more mature tone. But that’s quite a quick turn around from their previous style! The Liverpool band are still finding their place in the music scene so it will be interesting to see what they do next.

Spinning Away – Brian Eno and John Cale

It has been nearly 30 years since this guitar-dance classic was released, that is outrageous, it still feels as fresh now as it did back then. Brian Eno is one of the most important, innovative and inspiring figures in music. The musician, composer, singer, writer, producer and visual artist has pioneered approaches across rock, ambient, pop, alternative and electronic genres, advocating a methodology of “theory over practice” throughout his career, his influence isn’t particularly visible unless you research hard and see the impact he has had. Spinning Away was a popular track in the 90’s, famously featuring in the film The Beach, the consistent guitar riff throughout the track allows Eno and Cale to experiment with other sounds in the song, creating this mesmerising feel.

Bohemian Forest – Pantha du Prince

Pantha du Prince is the stage name of Hendrik Weber, an electro, techno, house and minimal producer from Germany. Producing an ambitious mix of experimentalism, percussion and electro beats, songs like Bohemian Forest are typical of Pantha Du Prince whose music can whisk you away into dream land. He has now released 5 studio albums, his latest coming in 2016, but he is still relatively unknown.
