New anti-Tory song makes it into the UK top 10

Liar Liar – Captain Ska

Captain Ska have made it into the UK top 10 singles chart after re-releasing their single Liar Liar in reference to the UK general election 2017. The song uses soundbites of speeches by Theresa May in their bid to ensure the current PM and the Conservative Party don’t win June’s election. The band are no stranger to politically charged music with their song Pieces Of Me containing lyrics such as ”The fucking Tories have privatised your brain” and a song entitled What’s The Point Of Nick Clegg? which requires no further explanation.

If Before I Wake – The Districts

Philadelphia-based quartet, The Districts, have released two new singles, their latest since their 2015 album A Flourish And A Spoil. The indie alternative band are currently on a worldwide tour playing all over the US and Europe including festivals such as Reading and Leeds. This new track sounds like an album opener with it’s atmospheric and echoey vocals and electric guitars. It feels more mature than their previous album and you can definitely see this band growing as they gain more and more attention.

Trees – Troumaca

Troumaca released their debut album, The Grace, in 2013 which opened with this stunning electro-indie ballad. The entire album is perfectly crafted, displaying their unique, alternative, experimental vibes. Sadly, guitarist Geoff Foulkes passed away from cancer in 2015 and the band have not released any music since, but Geoff’s legacy lives on. Other songs worth listening to on the album include Layou and The Grace.

Fish Bowl (Frankie Cosmos Remix) – Kero Kero Bonito

Kero Kero Bonito are a super interesting London-based band who are inspired by Japanese culture and J-pop in particular. Vocalist Sarah Midori Perry raps in both Japanese and English and the band produce a really unique mix of cliche-pop, electronics and dancehall. A lot of their music sounds like children’s songs and they are straying very close to the label of “lame”, but a lot of respect for trying something new. This song is remixed by Frankie Cosmos and is the closest to adult music they get. Feels like the kind of song to be featured in the film, Juno.

Distance Runner – Man & The Echo

The band from the North-East of England have a very 80’s feel to them that you just can’t put your finger on. The singing, the rhythm and the backing style have a very… Spandau Ballet vibe, whilst still sounding fresh and exciting. This song is taken from their debut self-titled album released last year in 2016. The band claim their music has elements of glam, soul and new wave indie, and they have certainly found a niche melting pot of genres. It works really well, it’s some real good listening.
