New Kygo featuring Ellie Goulding plus a new track from Kele of Bloc Party

First Time – Kygo & Ellie Goulding

The tropical house extraordinaire is back and this time he’s collaborated with Ellie Goulding who is no stranger to synthy collaborations, having previously sung with the likes of Calvin Harris. Kygo has shot to fame over the past five years with his upbeat and accessible house tracks gaining popularity. This one feels possibly too poppy, however, it just seems to lack a bit of cutting edge which was what made Kygo popular with such a wide range of fans.

Worhead – Little Comets

Little Comets have returned with their brand new album, Worhead, which expands on the exciting, kitchen-indie, fun sound they have so well established for themselves over their previous three albums. The band have quite a repertoire of excellent, sing-along, intricate songs and this album is no different. They have a reputation for being highly spontaneous whilst also being one of the hardest working indie bands on the scene. You can even hear it in their music, the guitar, vocal and lyrical talent of this band are impossible to ignore.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Chromatics

Chromatics put out 7 different remixes of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, for some reason. But actually it’s great to get on to Spotify and listen to all of the different styles they apply to the classic Cyndi Lauper track. Other variations include Girls Just Wanna Have Some, Girls Just Wanna Have Drums and Girls Just Wanna Have Dub. Be honest, it’s enjoyable.

Yemaya – Kele Okereke

This new solo single from Kele comes not too long after releasing a new album with what he calls “Bloc Party” but what is now a mix and match of random people he found to replace the original lineup. This new single features purely acoustic guitar and some strings, both played to absolute simplicity. There’s not much complex about this song, the lyrics sound like a poem written as part of a GCSE project and the guitar plays 3 strings throughout the entire track. Not entirely sure what’s going on here but it should probably stop. The strings are nice though, kudos to whoever was doing that, you can put lipstick on a pig…

Secret Powers (feat. Yule Post) – Yeo

This collaboration between Yeo and Yule Post is a lesson in applying 80s vibes to stunning modern effect, even featuring a saxophone at the end! Singing perfect harmonies together, the deeply passionate song reflects the awesome talent of both musicians. Yeo hails from Australia whilst Yule Post is a German singer.
